OUTDOOR LEARNING

OUTDOOR LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Here at Step by Step, our children enjoy the outdoors daily. We look at our playgrounds as an outdoor classroom. They are extensions of our indoor classrooms and learning experience.

Our outdoor classroom spaces have many areas such as gardens, mud kitchens, outdoor building construction, earth play, sensory, music, and so forth.  We encourage the children to plant flowers and veggies, water and care for them.  Classrooms get to pick herbs and vegetables to take in their classrooms and eat! This is just another way to show children where their food comes from. We hope you enjoy our outdoor spaces as much as the children do. Come and get dirty.

*Remember that your children will be playing in dirt, rocks, mud, water, sand, and many other materials, so be sure to choose their daily clothing appropriately.

Parents are welcome and encouraged to be a part of the gardening experience. We host outdoor family events to encourage you to be a part of building the space where your child gets to play and get dirty every day. Please be on the lookout for these events to participate!

“Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world, but themselves.”
